"DEMONS OF GERASENE"

	Mark 5:1-20    

OPENING PRAYER

O' MIGHTY Father, thank-You for receiving us on this LORD'S day. Open our hearts, Open our ears to the Message and the TRUTH of Holy SCRIPTURE. Convict us, HOLY SPIRIT, convict us deeply in our hearts of the vulgarity and deception that Satan hides cleverly under the deceptive cloak of temptation. Teach us to look beneath and discover the tricks of this angel of darkness and of death. Satan knows his time is short, and we must be prepared through strong faith in YOU LORD to deny him his prize in these last days. IN the NAME above all NAMES, Jesus, the Christ, AMEN.

 

MESSAGE

Our message today will anchor on Mark 5:1-20. This chapter provides us with a compelling and somewhat graphic demonic intercession by Jesus. You will discover that this event has been documented in three of the Gospels, Matthew, Mark and in Luke.

Lets get right in to the scripture; Mark 5:1-20; [Jesus and his disciples] came to the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gerasenes.  When He got out of the boat, immediately a man from the tombs with an unclean spirit met Him, and he had his dwelling among the tombs. And no one was able to bind him anymore, even with a chain; because he had often been bound with shackles and chains, and the chains had been torn apart by him and the shackles broken in pieces, and no one was strong enough to subdue him.  Constantly, night and day, he was screaming among the tombs and in the mountains, and gashing himself with stones.  

Seeing Jesus from a distance, he ran up and bowed down before Him; and shouting with a loud voice, he *said, "What business do we have with each other, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I implore You by God, do not torment me!"  For He had been saying to him, "Come out of the man, you unclean spirit!" And He was asking him, "What is your name?" And he *said to Him, "My name is Legion; for we are many."  [the population of a Roman Legion was approx 5,500 men] And he began to implore Him earnestly not to send them out of the country.  

Now there was a large herd of swine feeding nearby on the mountain.  The demons implored Him, saying, "Send us into the swine so that we may enter them."  Jesus gave them permission. And coming out, the unclean spirits entered the swine; and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea, about two thousand of them; and they were drowned in the sea.  

Their herdsmen ran away and reported it in the city and in the country. And the people came to see what it was that had happened.  They *came to Jesus and *observed the man who had been demon-possessed sitting down, clothed and in his right mind, the very man who had had the "legion"; and they became frightened.  Those who had seen it described to them how it had happened to the demon-possessed man, and all about the swine.  

And they began to implore Him to leave their region.   As [Jesus] was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon-possessed was imploring Him that he might accompany Him.  And He did not let him, but He *said to him, "Go home to your people and report to them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He had mercy on you."  And he went away and began to proclaim in Decapolis what great things Jesus had done for him; and everyone was amazed.

Scripturally, we witness the horror and power of darkness every day. The tremendous toll evil has taken not only on individuals but on whole communities is great. Let us bear Witness and reeducate ourselves to the ULTIMATE power of HE who created all that there is, or will ever be. Being armed with this knowledge, we can share, with confidence, the beauty and Glory of His wonderful compassion when our souls see clearly the TRUTH and POWER of the GOSPEL and call the name of Jesus Christ, being protected in real time!

 

In both the New and Old Testament demons belong to the kingdom of Satan whose power Christ will eventually destroy. The Bible clearly teaches that the power of Christ extends even to the world of evil spirits and that faith in Him is more than adequate protection against the evils to which men may be held captive.

 

So, What is a demon? It is a spiritual being, a follower of Satan. Satan is a Hebrew word meaning Adversary. This fallen Angel has a name, Abbadon in Hebrew and Apollyon in the Greek. Lucifer or the Devil are yet other descriptors. 

 

Do they really exist? Yes! The Bible says they exist. Especially revealed in the NT. Our first introduction to such a spirit was in the Garden of Eden. Remember Genesis chapter three; Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord had made. The slick salesman like pitch Satan delivered to Eve was all that was needed for her to do what was forbidden by God! It became easy, then, for her to further entice her husband, Adam, who was already leaning toward this violation. We know the rest of the story and everyone of us was sentenced to eternal death as a result! 

 

How do demons work? They, or what they represent [lust, greed, hate, covetousness] become objects that are worshiped instead of God. Idols, representatives of pride, of self.

 

How do they get in us? They are invited. We gladly open the door and ask them to come in and they are quick to SATISFY. The moment we accept them within us, we also accept the SIN that is attached. The SIN then takes us to places we would not normally go, do things that we don't normally do, staying much longer than we should and it costs us more that we ever expected.....our ETERNAL lives!! Sin, SATAN, the Devil is INVITED by us in our natural nature to COME ON IN!  Be confident. Evil spirits cannot force you to do anything against your will. Your fire wall against demons is Christ Himself.  

Deu 32:17  "They sacrificed to demons who were not God, To gods whom they have not known, New gods who came lately, Whom your fathers did not dread.

Psa 106:37  They even sacrificed their sons and their daughters to the demons.

1Co 10:19-20  Paul counseled his disciples that offerings to false Gods is a horrible event, never acceptable; "...but I say that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons and not to God; and I do not want you to become sharers in demons."

1Jn 3:9-10  No one who is born of God practices sin, because His seed abides in him;[JESUS] and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.  By this the children of God and the children of the devil are obvious: anyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor the one who does not love his brother.

Rev 9:20-21  The rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands, so as not to worship demons, and the idols of gold and of silver and of brass and of stone and of wood, which can neither see nor hear nor walk; and they did not repent of their murders nor of their sorceresses nor of their immorality nor of their thefts.

The attractiveness of the Devil comes in packages of lust, greed, selfishness, covetousness, all dressed up to make you believe that the Devil can OUT GOD GOD!. As the highest most beautiful of God's creations at that time, the applause went to Satan's head, and the moment the devil decided to truly think he could challenge the Great Creator, he lost his lofty position.

When the Lord elected to make man in His image, man and woman, the war footing was established between Satan and God's new creation. Satan and his angels, followers, demons, what ever they might be called are real, and can cause real grief, illness, and have become very good at drawing humans away from the worship and love of the Lord.

SUMMARY

In every possession story that appears to have been successful, permission had to have been granted and a door opened in order for the devil to come in. Those doors open when the human is successfully tempted with the promise of incredible lusts, money, fame, sex, possessions, sinful things that feel good for a short time, then shame replaces that fun.

 We who believe and are saved through the Blood of Jesus are further protected when the Lord arms us with himself and His ability to overcome any satanic temptation, but just like anyone else, we should never open a door to invite Satan to come in. Our Faith in Christ must be strong, and we stay well clear of those sinful activities that can pry the door open.

Somewhere along the way, the man in this bible story opened the door multiple times in sin and a path to his body and soul was created and allowed. The man knew Jesus at first sight [more accurately the demons in him recognized Jesus], and Jesus immediately saw great potential in this approaching man once the demons were removed. Jesus actions were very fruitful as the once hopelessly afflicted man returned to sanity and was then sent--in his right mind-- to EVANGELIZE the Truth of Jesus Christ to multitudes of people in 10 cities and who knows how many lives may have been influenced to believe and perhaps even eventually be saved.

Finally, There is ample evidence that regardless of the terrible circumstances that a man or woman may find themselves, they can be freed of this slavery to SIN and Demonic influence through Jesus Our Christ, and perhaps be further sent to EVANGELIZE others bringing glory to the Lord! Yes, demons are real. They truly exist. When the Holy Spirit resides in you, demons can not enter! No force of darkness can ever OUT GOD GOD! 

CLOSING PRAYER

O Mighty Lord, it is Your great mystery as to why the Devil, this fallen angel has continued as long as he has in generating turmoil throughout the world. It is comforting to know, through Your Word, that Satan's time is very short. We believe, O Lord, that despite Satan himself knowing what his end will be, he remains absolutely committed to take with him as many humans as possible into the fiery pit of brimstone that will burn unending forever more. Thank-You Jesus for Your divine protection and Love eternal, and in Your precious name, Amen

Praise God, from Whom all blessings flow;

Praise Him, all creatures here below;

Praise Him above, Ye heaven-ly host;

Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost

OPENING PRAYER

Awesome and Holy God, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit, praise You for gathering us together in fellowship and worship on this Holy day. We are not blind, O' Lord, being witness of the movement of Your mighty hand, generating open doors for advancement of Your will, closing other doors preventing more wrongful progress. Our faith and trust is in You, in the name of Jesus the Christ, we are Yours, AMEN

MESSAGE

DIVISION. Every direction I look today there is DIVISION. Not just perceivable and definable division, but in your face anger and deep seated hatred. From the late 1960's to this very day, we have watched a slow-motion removal of the "Spiritual Magnetism" of our Moral Compass. Its like our common Lodestone was drained of it's magnetic properties; God's given internal tool that points to righteousness. As we look into the bezel to establish our direction, our reference, the compass needle is constantly moving, never remaining constant. The "Magnetism" missing is our belief and trust in God. The scary part is that what we are seeing and experiencing is not just in the United States, it is popping-up all around the globe! The long hidden stuff we are presently finding is like a bad dream, except day by day these are proving to be hard reality!

Before I continue to wander down this crooked and weed covered trail, take note, this IS NOT A POLITICAL argument! It is BIBLICAL. What we are finding valid and overwhelming evidence of wrong doing. The results are either WRONG or RIGHT. No middle ground. Righteousness Vs. Evil.

It really does not take a rocket scientist or a PhD of Theology to see that what has developed is different. Something new has slithered into the land, quietly and by-enlarge unseen. Now that we recognise the horror of discovery, this demands attention.

Chapter 12 of the Gospel of Luke has begun flashing like a neon sign; "Be dressed in readiness, and keep your lamps lit.  "Be like men who are waiting for their master when he returns from the wedding feast, so that they may immediately open the door to him when he comes and knocks.- "Luk 12:35-36 NKJV} I think that most of you know exactly what the Lord is announcing. He is really, really close and we had better be ready when the Trumpet and Shofar begins to sound. "Whether he comes in the second watch, or even in the third, and finds them so, blessed are those slaves.- {Luk 12:38 NKJV}

While this message goes out through the world, the following event occurs, over and over again; "Come," one says, "I will bring wine, And we will fill ourselves with intoxicating drink; Tomorrow will be as today, And much more abundant." {Isa 56:12}

Jesus was clear and to the point when he was addressing the various multitudes often gathered before him; Luk 12:51-53  "Do you suppose that I came to grant peace on earth? I tell you, no, but rather division;  for from now on five members in one household will be divided, three against two and two against three.   "They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law." Look around. What do you see? {NKJV}

The Lord is delivering a clear warning of what is about to unfold. Listen to this in Mat 16:2-3 NKJV; [Jesus] said to them, "When it is evening you say, 'It will be fair weather, for the sky is red'; and in the morning, 'It will be foul weather today, for the sky is red and threatening.' Hypocrites! You know how to discern the face of the sky, but you cannot discern the signs of the times.

You remember that old Sailor's poem from many years ago; RED SKIES IN MORNING, SAILOR TAKE WARNING. RED SKIES AT NIGHT A SAILOR'S DELIGHT! If you have not REPENTED and received Jesus Christ as your SAVIOR, I urge you to do so today, right now, this very minute. Do not delay!

For those in whom the Spirit of God lives, open your eyes to what is demanded of you! SHARE the beauty and Glory of being BORN AGAIN. To becoming a new person through the blood of our Lord Jesus. Share with your neighbor your personal story of SALVATION. How it was that YOU CAME TO THE LORD. It is your story. It is truth. It is beauty and it should be shared. No one can tell your story like you can tell it. It happened to you. Just share it! The Lord will do the rest!! "Be ready; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour that you do not expect." {Luk 12:40 NKJV}

SUMMARY

The message today is not that much different than the message delivered in this very same room five years ago in 2020. We have all watched these hurtful, deceptive, and down right EVIL practices develop and advance in full view! It is not like we did not know what was going on, or what it's eventual impact would be, WE DID! We the church that belongs to Jesus Christ stayed silent. Many didn't even pray. We became part of the problem, quietly pretending that somehow the LORD would solve the problem. The Bible says...HE WILL!

Paul writes in 1Thes 4: 13-18; But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as do the rest who have no hope.

For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus.

For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep.

For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.

Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord.

Therefore comfort one another with these words. {NASB}

God's solution is coming in the clouds. Lets make sure our celestial bags are packed and ready to go!

The Church must not remain silent. The Church needs to speak boldly and clearly that there is a great difference between GOOD and EVIL, RIGHT and WRONG. There is no middle ground in between, it is one or the other.  Children of God must never compromise. 

CLOSING PRAYER

Lord, From the first SIN committed in the Garden of Eden, mankind has demonstrated his keen ability to take what was gifted to him by you, his Creator, and fashion that same gift as rebellion to authority. From the garden to the great flood, to the captivity and entry into the Promised Land, mankind rebelled. Even Your only begotten Son, Jesus was challenged. His sacrifice has torn the veil top to bottom granting unfettered access to Your mighty throne and Your promise of eternal life. Thank-You Jesus, AMEN

Sunday Message

"PERSECUTIONS OF MESSIAH"

For they persecute the ones You have struck, And talk of the grief of those You have wounded. {PSA 69:26}

OPENING PRAYER

O' Hallowed God of the universe, Creator of all that there is or will ever be, we are forever thankful that our hearts beat in our chests, that our lungs provide breath to the life blood that circulates. You have ordained us with eyes and ears and senses to be witnesses to Your grandeur, majesty and power. Edifying others with Your Word. May we use all that You have given us as we embrace and learn in fellowship the scriptural message You have provided, in the name of JESUS, Amen.

MESSAGE

Not long after the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem this tiny KING of KINGS was introduced to the world by way of a group of Shepherds of Sheep. With shepherds, there was an immediate familiarity, a kinship, a sense of family in that first meeting. The swaddling cloths were probably a tip off. Shepherds use the same method of protecting the newborn lamb from becoming injured or killed by the other mature sheep. Baby lams are tender. So was baby Jesus! 

Under God's great celestial canopy the shepherd holds a position akin to royalty with the Father in heaven. A shepherd's life was and is demanding, all consuming, but ever so rewarding to those who learn and grow in this heavenly calling. Few people on the earth have such a a great opportunity to actually LIVE and prosper as by the leadership of a good shepherd. 

As a shepherd, being on the receiving end of persecution --from just about everyone who IS NOT-- a shepherd's persecution comes with the job. I don't know why humans behave instinctual with hostility to other humans. Its not unlike a gaggle of chickens reacting when a NEW ROOSTER joins the group. They go nuts and can get bloody very quick. Moses had three opportunities to be the NEW ROOSTER for the Lord. As a baby, he was sentenced to death by drowning. 

Our Creator guided the mother of Moses and his big sister through a plan that would save his life. Raised as an Egyptian for his first 40 years, his next 40 years he would be learning a new occupation, that of a shepherd. 

The Lord then hired Moses to shepherd and lead the most challenging flock of contrary critters ever to live on this planet! Humans! For another forty years!! Moses was a shepherd's shepherd leading the Lord's Chosen.  

The flock of the Lord PERSECUTED Moses constantly. Psa 78:20, NKJV; Behold, He struck the rock, So that the waters gushed out, And the streams overflowed. Can He give bread also? Can He provide meat for His people?" See my point? No matter what Moses did, the flock was never satisfied. When Moses spoke of God, people turned away, and later, while leading them, God's wrath would kill a bunch of them for their stiff-necked attitudes. 

 Even as the PERSECUTION continued, Moses remained at the helm, LEADING the WAY, speaking and teaching the TRUTH! Thats what leaders do. Being a shepherd builds leadership! Jesus was a man who was the exact model of what a Shepherd's leadership should be. Would you find it odd or strange that the top character to be found in all shepherd like leaders is NOT bravery, or craftiness, or hugely creative? Its...LOVE

[I Cor. 13:4-8 NKJV]- Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails. Jesus, in the flesh, was the living breathing image of His Father in heaven. He WAS GOD, standing right there before their eyes. People could see him, hear him, speak to him, touch him and be touched by the Master Shepherd Himself!  

When frequently queried about His son-ship to the Almighty, Jesus always referred to God as , My Father, your Father, Our Father... in Zech. 1:5, The Lord God's words were documented by the Prophet saying "Your fathers, where are they? And the prophets, do they live forever? What a great question. You and I live for the Lord and have His spirit indwelling in us. If we finish our race well, we will be in the New Jerusalem with our Lord. Answers to many questions will be revealed to us.  

Isaiah was one of those mighty Shepherd, Learned Prophets, he had visions of the coming Lord, he wrote Isa 53:4-5 Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.  

The Apostles all served, learned and grew following their Master, the Chief Shepherd. Jesus taught them by example. He truly was and is a "Hands-on" healer. Holy Scripture is full of the wisdom, direction, assurance, the beauty and the love of the only begotten Son of the Living God! 

  It certainly was not smooth sailing for Jesus in His brief three years of "one-on-one" ministry. Even when facing the most rambunctious and loud dis tractors, Jesus always had the right words and guidance for them; Delivered in KINDNESS through those who loved Him back; Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted. [Gal. 6:1 NKJV] 

 Let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins. [Jas. 5:20 NKJV] Now we exhort you, brethren, warn those who are unruly, comfort the fainthearted, uphold the weak, be patient with all.  

Therefore let us not judge one another anymore, but rather resolve this, not to put a stumbling block or a cause to fall in our brother's way. [I Thes. 5:14 ; Rom. 14:13 NKJV]  

Of all those Under Shepherds of the Lord's flock, it was Jesus who was persecuted in such vile and evil manner. He taught us to stay strong, remain true, and as the Apostle Paul wrote: We then who are strong ought to bear with the scruples of the weak, and not to please ourselves. Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.

No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it. [Rom. 15:1; I Cor. 10:12 NKJV]

The day of dread came. Our severely tortured and bleeding Shepherd slowly made His way to Golgotha. Here He would be stripped, tied and nailed to the cross, in agony amongst two others meeting the same faith. Before Jesus died that day, He mustered the strength to grant salvation to one of those who hung with him, promising, "Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise".

John 19:34; Then the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first and of the other who was crucified with Him. But when they came to Jesus and saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs. But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out. All the soldier could then do was collapse and sob greatly.

Jesus WAS NOT just an emissary. JESUS WAS THE EMISSARY, in the exact image of His Father. The way Jesus was treated was very shameful. The way Jesus has since responded to us....is beyond BEAUTIFUL.

John 5:39-40 You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life. Jesus is the LIFE!

PSA 69:26 For they persecute the ones You have struck [Messiah and followers who suffered abuse, death in His name], And talk of the grief of those You have wounded. [Jesus who was martyred and followed by many others who were killed in His name] This grief being generated purely from an evil contained in the hearts and minds of those who reject MESSIAH, being ignorant or blinded from seeing, hearing or learning the truth as recorded in HOLY SCRIPTURE. JESUS is TRUTH!

Jer 2:13 "For My people have committed two evils: They have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, And hewn themselves cisterns--broken cisterns that can hold no water.

John 7:37-38 On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, "If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water."

Rev 22:17 And the Spirit and the bride say, "Come!" And let him who hears say, "Come!" And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely.

It saddens me that so many of God's creation will never embrace Jesus because of stubbornness, self worship or chasing an idol. Nearly 2/3rds of all humanity will choose to perish FOREVER when calling HIS name would have led to eternal life!

CLOSING PRAYER

Lord, From the first SIN committed in the Garden of Eden, mankind has demonstrated his keen ability to take what was gifted to him by you, his Creator, and fashion that same gift as rebellion to authority. From the garden to the great flood, to the captivity and entry into the Promised Land, mankind rebelled. Even Your only begotten Son, Jesus was challenged. His sacrifice has torn the veil granting unfettered access to Your mighty throne and eternal life. Thank-You Jesus, AMEN

DOXOLOGY

Praise God, from Whom all blessings flow;

Praise Him, all creatures here below;

Praise Him above, Ye heaven-ly host;

Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost

After Pharaoh had let the people go, God did not lead them along the road to the land of the Philistines, although that was nearby, for God said, “The people might change their minds if they see war and return to Egypt.” 18 So God led the people around by the way of the wilderness to the Sea of Reeds, and Bnei-Yisrael went up out of the land of Egypt armed. {Exo 13:17-18 TLV}

"A STAR IN GLORY"

One star differs from another star in glory.

{1 Cor 15:41 NKJV}

OPENING PRAYER

O' Mighty and awesome Father, Lord Jesus, maker of all that there is, or will ever be, we Your creation praise Your eternal greatness. We do so every time we gaze at the heavens and see the trillions of stars looking back at us. It is as though as we see the stars, You see us in that same moment. The great canopy of heaven communicates, with out a word, the vast eternal grandeur that is YOU, O' Hallowed God. As we gather on this Holy day, allow the unchanging stars to be our constant reminder that You are the author. In Jesus we pray, Amen.

MESSAGE

Oh What a wondrous and awesome universe our God has made. Consider for a moment how vast is our galaxy, the Milky Way. It is home to our tiny perch called Earth in our tiny solar system in a tiny galaxy containing billions of stars, among billions of other galaxies in the massive celestial community called the Universe! One word comes to my mind... WOW! How great is our Creator!

Consider this as well; Our planet is but one planet in a galaxy of billions of planets, billions of stars and our galaxy is but one of billions of galaxies. The Bible teaches us that in the whole universe no two celestial bodies are the same. That premise applies to we as humans. No two have ever been duplicated exactly, every human who ever lived from the day of Adam has been different, no CARBON COPIES.

The Bible says in 1 Cor 15: verse 39 and following: The Apostle Paul teaches that All flesh is not the same flesh, but there is one flesh of men, and another flesh of beasts, and another flesh of birds, and another of fish.

There are also heavenly bodies and earthly bodies, but the glory of the heavenly is one, and the glory of the earthly is another.

There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for star differs from star in glory.

So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown a perishable body, it is raised an imperishable body; it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.

So also it is written, "The first MAN, Adam, BECAME A LIVING SOUL." The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.

However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural; then the spiritual.

The first man is from the earth, earthy; the second man is from heaven.

If we turn our bibles back a few pages to the book of Mark and Chapter 9, we find that Jesus and his followers had just passed through Galilee on the way to Capernaum . As they walked along, Jesus explained to them that He would soon be given into the hands of the Heathens and put to death. But, He said, "After they kill me I will rise on the third day." Not a single member of the 12 had a clue of what He was talking about. They could not connect the dots.

Shortly after their arrival in Capernaum, Jesus entered the house while the apostles were having a spirited conversation among st themselves. When they saw Jesus approaching, they all got real quiet. The Lord then asked them what they had been talking about. Again, there was silence since the fellows had been discussing which one of them was better than the other, being braggers.

Jesus sat down with the twelve and said to them, "If anyone wants to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all." Taking a child, He set [the child] before them, and taking him in His arms, He said to them, "Whoever receives one child like this in My name receives Me; and whoever receives Me does not receive Me, but Him who sent Me." {Mark 9: 35-37 NKJV}

SUMMARY/APPLICATION

Just like the Stars in heavens, no two of us has ever been replicated or duplicated since the beginning of time. Our Creator has made each one of us different. Even identical twins are not IDENTICAL. We may look alike, walk alike, speak alike, think alike but not one of us is exactly as the other. Here we must remember that; none of us is greater or lesser than the other. In our relationships amongst our brothers and sisters, we are equals. Never shy away from being a lowly servant. When you serve, serve all equally. When you love others, don't short-change one over the other.

We look different because we are unique. We each have certain talents, characteristics, skills that some others might not have. These are the gifts that God provided to you personally as your substance developed in your mother's womb. The Lord gave you those talents and the expectation is that one day, you will capitalize on those skills to bring glory to He who created you. That is your calling. That is your job!

If you have ever asked the question, "What does God want me to do? How do I serve Him?" The gifts and talents that you have had from birth is your clue. Use these God given talents to edify others in the glory of the Lord God. DO what you are good at, but do it all in His name, give Him the glory.

As different as the stars in the sky, we all shine brightly at the pleasure of the Lord of Lords, the King of Kings. Let us turn to the Book of Philippians, [Chapter 2 and Verses 6-8;] Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus,

who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.

There are a couple of global organizations that specialize the art of Star Cataloging. One is American based and the other is international. The American registry deals mostly with memorial gifts, naming stars after a loved one who has departed the earth. The international Registry grants the purchaser Naming and ownership of the selected star, the transaction recorded for the balance of earthly time. That is their claim. I'm not clear on how this "OWNERSHIP" part works considering the Lord owns all of it!!

From my childhood, a star poem;

Twinkle, twinkle, little star, How I wonder what you are!

Up above the world so high, Like a diamond in the sky.

When the blazing sun is gone, When he nothing shines upon,

Then you show your little light, Twinkle, twinkle, all the night.

Then the traveler in the dark Thanks you for your tiny spark,

How could he see where to go, If you did not twinkle so?

In the dark blue sky you keep, Often through my curtains peep

For you never shut your eye, Till the sun is in the sky.

As your bright and tiny spark Lights the traveler in the dark,

Though I know not what you are, Twinkle, twinkle, little star.

CLOSING PRAYER

Our North star is always You, Jesus. When following You Lord, and Your Light, we never are lost. From the earliest days of ships upon the sea, Your stars guided the journey, heralds the seasons, and gives strength and comfort by their regularity. Our star, the Sun opens and closes each day, where upon the Greater Light gives way to the Lessor and time of rest refreshment and reflection. Thank-You O' Mighty God for giving us the sight of our eyes so that we might see the wonders of Your universe, through Your precious Son, Jesus, AMEN.
