Sunday Message:

"Autumn of our Earthly Years"

Psa 90:10 NKJV- The days of our lives are seventy years; And if by reason of strength they are eighty years, [ninety or a hundred]...Yet their boast is only labor and sorrow; For it is soon cut off, and we fly away.

OPENING PRAYER

Lord, you teach us that when two or more believers are gathered together, You are in our Midst. Welcome, Almighty Savior, You are always welcomed. Thank-You for the blessing of this gathering in fellowship and worship on this Holy Day. Open our Ears, Hearts, and Souls so that we might receive and absorb the message of Your teaching through this humble servant. Guide his division of the word to an accurate and correct reflection of Your will, in Christ Jesus, AMEN.

MESSAGE

God created Earth and all of the things in and on the Earth. He included the Sun, moon, stars, clouds, weather, seasons, and animals. He also created us! Since early days, we have been able to apply the seasons of the year to the START and FINISH of our Earthly existence.

From birth, to about 20 years of age, Spring was the herald of our youth. Fresh, bright, growing. Our mature and dynamic productivity followed in the Summer season of our fleshly-bound lives. It seems that the period between Age 21 up to and including age 55 years covers the family rearing period that quickly converts to the Autumn season. The whole world seems to "sigh" in unison with us and we take a much needed breath and slower pace.

Winter arrives and we wonder, IS THIS ALL THERE IS? Everyone in this room today knows what comes next. With great expectation, we HOLD UP OUR HANDS in joy! Sadly, many, many others do not know, and this winter period is full of fear and foreboding. We can help with that!

Genesis chapter FIVE and the first part of chapter six is often overlooked because it deals with who begot who and from whom another was begotten. What I find very fascinating in these chapters is how long man lived; birth-to-death. Are you curious how long Adam lived? His birthday was during Creation week. Adam was made in the IMAGE OF GOD. but All of Adam's children, however, were made in the Image of Adam.

How many years was Adam on the earth? All the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years, and he died. {Gen 5:5 NASB}

Up to and including the time of Noah, these similar lifespans were normal.

The great grandfather of "The years alive prize" goes to Enoch's son Methuselah. All the days of Methuselah were nine hundred and sixty-nine years, and he died. {Gen 5:27 NASB.}

The LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. The LORD was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. The LORD said, "I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, from man to animals to creeping things and to birds of the sky; for I am sorry that I have made them." But Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD. {Gen 6:5-8 NASB}

Many changes took place in the aftermath of the GREAT FLOOD. The event that destroyed every "air-breathing" Creature on the face of the earth except those who were with Noah in the ARK. These folks would have to initiate the RE-POPULATION OF THE WORLD!

Then the LORD said, "My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, because he also is flesh; nevertheless his days shall be one hundred and twenty years." {Gen 6:3 NASB} No longer would mankind live hundreds and hundreds of years! One Hundred Twenty became the cap! Man could be so horribly evil that God would no longer tolerate him having hundreds of years to defy God's will.

Noah was not far behind Methuselah in his passing, All the days of Noah were nine hundred and fifty years, and he died. {Gen 9:29 NASB} Those after Noah had a new life span of about 120 years.

Moses certainly had his share of dealing with a very stubborn people and Moses even wrote a Psalm telling us that God would further reduce the lifespan of His creation, Moses said; "The days of our lives are [NOW] seventy years..." unless by strength we take care of ourselves and love our Lord; and [a few] years may be added. {Psa 90:10 }

Most of us have known or has heard of birthday celebrations for friends locally who have reached one hundred years or more! In fact, today the CENTURY mark is pretty common. One of our residents reached for the stars just days following her 104th birthday.

SUMMARY/APPLICATION

The TITLE of today's message was "The Autumn of our Earthly years" Of the four seasons, autumn is my favorite. We are still active. We still do stuff. We have made sacrifices along the way, but by the Grace of God our Lord has been very hands-on with us, and our Faith is strong as we wait for the next Chapters to evolve from the temporary, here on Earth, to the reward of eternity in the Kingdom of Heaven.

Doing the math to establish our present day Autumn season is pretty simple by estimation. I figure, our Life's Autumn starts at about 70 years old, and with good health practices and staying physically active, as best as we are able, that should keep us in the Autumn period into the 90's. At least that might be our plan.

Figuring out the Autumn numbers for a person like Methuselah who lived to the age of 969 years, you and I would have to wait another 600 plus years just to cross into Autumn-hood. My brain just cannot process being that age. Perhaps it was difficult for Methuselah as well. We know from Holy Scripture that God Almighty found us to be untenable before the Great Flood. Noah was one of the last "Long-termers" followed by Moses ushering in God's final age cap on His creation.

My mother-in-law, Mary, went home to the Lord at the age of 96. From around age 93 to her passing, she frequently quipped, "Lord, why are you keeping me here? I'm tired and want to go home..." I can only surmise that old Methuselah must have been pretty worn out when he finally drew his last earthly breath at the ripe-old age of NINE HUNDRED AND SIXTY NINE YEARS !!

CLOSING PRAYER

Almighty God and Savior, thank-You for teaching and guiding us along our short journey from the temporal of Earth to the Eternity of Your Kingdom. You teach us to value every day with no expectation that tomorrow is promised. However, those who are Yours, bought and paid for in Your own blood, we are the children of the promise. We each look FORWARD to serving You FOREVER! In the name above all names, Our Savior... JESUS the CHRIST, AMEN.

Sunday Message:

"You are Salt of the Earth"

Mat 5:13 NKJV

"You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men."

OPENING PRAYER

O Mighty Father, we thank-you for gathering us together in fellowship here and from around the world to learn and to grow in Your Holy Word. Grant us open ears, eyes and souls to receive this teaching from on high. Grant us that which we might need to apply these lessons to our daily walk, following the foot steps of Jesus the Christ.

MESSAGE

Mat 5:13 NKJV- "You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men;... rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.-1Pe 3:4 NKJV

The LORD Jesus calls us "the salt of the earth". This proclamation is a really big deal. Not only because the Messiah said so, it is because of the intimate relationship each one of us has with this natural element, also know as NaCl, sodium chloride. It has physical properties, historical significance, medicinal benefits, preservation and purity uses, and most important, being SALTED also indicates being SAVED.

In the opening photo above, two small children can be seen licking a white block of SALT placed in an area where the livestock and all the animals can replenish the life-saving levels of sodium in their bodies. YES, I am quite guilty of "licking" the salt stone" that were in various places on grandpa's farm and the adjoining ranches. Even in the mountains, salt licks were placed deep in the forest to serve the deer, mountain lions, bear, and all other manner of wildlife.

Did you know that right here in Florida, during the civil war, SALT was worth more than GOLD, pound for pound, ounce for ounce? Florida's Gulf Coast became a thriving mecca of salt ponds, where sea water would flood man made ponds, allowed to evaporate under the Florida sun, leaving behind WHITE-GOLD!

 SALT sustains LIFE!   Without salt, we die.

In biblical times and perhaps even today, new born infants had that waxy vernex protective film removed from their tiny bodies by aggressively rubbing the newborn with coarse salt. It hurts!

 The baby exercised their little immature lungs well during the process.  That was a good thing. The salt made quick work of removing the wax coating that GOD provided in the womb, so that nine months of living in a bag of water would not harm the skin of new life.

 After the coarse salt rub..to remove the vernex, a finer grade of salt, mixed with olive oil, would be spread all over the baby's body and then the infant wrapped in swaddling cloths.

 The new tender skin would be "salt-cured" and "tenderized" using olive oil and salt to toughen up the skin's protection resisting outside infections. Preserved like little hams,   salted to prevent spoilage.

I recall well in late summer evenings, the family would gather at the vegetable garden just before sunset. We would sit around and talk about the week, and eat fresh, vine ripened tomatoes, cucumbers, & tender ears of corn.

 Grandma always had a few tiny round shakers of Morton Salt available.  Salt on one end of the shaker,  pepper on the opposite end.

 Those precious memories (and flavors) will be with me forever! SALT is a very big deal!

1Pe 1:23-25 NASB for you have been born again not of seed which is perishable but imperishable, that is, through the living and enduring word of God. (24) For, "ALL FLESH IS LIKE GRASS, AND ALL ITS GLORY LIKE THE FLOWER OF GRASS. THE GRASS WITHERS, AND THE FLOWER FALLS OFF, (25) BUT THE WORD OF THE LORD ENDURES FOREVER." And this is the word which was preached to you.

HIS WORD IS The SALT of the Lord!

Whenever we find ourselves needing some "salty replenishment" adding flavor to whatever  the world tries to feed us,  our "Salt-Lick" or our refreshment is the Holy WORD of GOD found in our Bibles.

The WORD of GOD!    This is our SALT!

Joh 11:25-26 NASB Jesus said to [Martha, sister of Lazarus], "I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, (26) and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?

 The Word of GOD is SALT, and the SALT is life!

Rom 1:22-23 NKJV Professing to be wise, [those of the world] became fools, (23) and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things

 They suffered SALT deficiency...and if unchecked, eventually leads to eternal death.

Those,however,  who are well SALTED by the WORD of GOD, according to scripture:  are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him. [You become SALT-LESS] (10) If Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of [THE SALT ] of righteousness. (11) But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you

 You become the SALT for others to see, and prayerfully, emulate.

 Are you SALTY? -Rom 8:9-11 NASB SALT becomes your protection, your preserver.

1Co 15:42-45 NASB So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown a perishable body, it is raised an imperishable body; (43) it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; (44) it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. (45) So also it is written, "The first MAN, Adam, BECAME A LIVING SOUL." The last Adam became a life-giving spirit,--

Our Lord is the Original SALT of the EARTH!

SUMMARY/APPLICATION

Fire is the great purifier. During the Lord's testing, that which the fire does not destroy will survive and go on to eternity in the kingdom of God.

 Because we are human, there will be that portion which does not survive the fires of testing. HOWEVER,  Salt is a great protector, a curative that will protect us into eternal life and unending joy.

Mar 9:49-50 NASB "For everyone will be salted with fire. (50) "Salt is good; but if the salt becomes unsalty, with what will you make it salty again? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with one another." Holy Scripture is SALT.

The WILL of GOD is SALT. Your salvation is SALT. Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification, according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear. --Eph 4:29 NASB

CLOSING PRAYER

As we close in prayer LORD, we are humbled to be gathered in Your name. To learn from Your Holy Word. To grow and to know how vital it is to be well salted, seasoned with Your Holy Scripture. Grant us the self discipline to carry that which we learn over to our walk before You, O' Mighty Lord. In the name of Jesus, this is our collective prayer, AMEN.

Sunday Message:

BE STILL AND KNOW

Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. -Psa 46:10 KJV

OPENING PRAYER

Awesome Father, Precious Son, Indwelling Holy Spirit PRAISE YOU! What joy we have when we are gathered in Your name for fellowship and love. Grant us open ears, hearts, and souls to learn more about Your character and Godliness. Let our lips be sealed so that our effort is to listen and to learn from Holy Scripture on this blessed day. This we pray in the name above all names, Jesus the Christ, AMEN.

MESSAGE

Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. -Psa 46:10 KJV Whether you find yourself in dotage, midage, or nonage, being still requires discipline and practice toward perfection. Some old timers like me still struggle with being still. Its hard sometimes to focus. So many thoughts rolling through the mind. Distractions are everywhere. Today's lifestyle in the world is a cruel taskmaster. No mercy, you snooze, you loose! Hold on a second, I'm getting a text.....How do we develop this rare art of stillness?

In the Book of Ruth a mother and wife joins her two daughters-in-law suffering the horrible depths of grief in the loss of her husband and her sons. Suddenly, mother and two daughters-in-law must fend for themselves to avoid starving to death. Strong faith leads through difficult days, One daughter returns to her people. Ruth clings to Naomi, committing each to the other. Naomi's tribe support her return and redemption is soon to be found. Stillness, however, would be required!

Rth 3:18 NKJV Then [Naomi] said, "Sit still, my daughter, until you know how the matter will turn out; for the man [Boaz] will not rest until he has concluded the matter this day." For Ruth and her mother-in-law Naomi -- being still was vital to survival. God had heard their pleadings, and His will was being set in motion to the outcome of His pleasure! Ruth need only stillness and patience as the Lord's hand moved Boaz. Oh, what a beautiful outcome. Patience, Stillness and God's will prevailed.

Standing before the tomb of Lazarus, Jesus *said, "Remove the stone." Martha, the sister of the deceased, *said to Him, "Lord, by this time there will be a stench, for he has been dead four days." (40) Jesus *said to her, "Did I not say to you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?" {Joh 11:39-40 NASB}

She stood still and the Lord shouted "LAZARUS ...COME FORTH!!.."

Luk 10:38-42 NASB Now as they were traveling along, [Jesus] entered a village; and a woman named Martha welcomed Him into her home. (39) She had a sister called Mary, who was seated at the Lord's feet, listening to His word. (40) But Martha was distracted with all her preparations; and she came up to Him and said, "Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to do all the serving alone? Then tell her to help me." (41) But the Lord answered and said to her, "Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things; (42) but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her." Mary was being still...so that she might know!

Psa 4:4 NASB Tremble, and do not sin; Meditate in your heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah. Always allow for a few moments of calm, Be Still, as the Lord reminds. These precious moments can help you to focus and avoid making the situation worse or fall into sin in response. (Count to TEN)

Psa 37:7-8 NASB Rest in the LORD and [BE STILL] while you wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who carries out wicked schemes. (8) Cease from anger and forsake wrath; Do not fret; it leads only to evildoing. Be still...and count to TEN!

1Ki 19:1-11 NASB Now [King] Ahab told [Queen] Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and how he had killed the [450 Pagan] prophets with the sword. (2) Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, "So may the gods do to me and even more, if I do not make your life as the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time." (3) And [Elijah] he was afraid and arose and ran for his life and came to Beersheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there.

(4) But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree; and he requested for himself that he might die, and said, "It is enough; now, O LORD, take my life, for I am not better than my fathers."

(5) He lay down and slept under a juniper tree; and behold, there was an angel touching him, and he said to him, "Arise, eat."

(6) Then he looked and behold, there was at his head a bread cake baked on hot stones, and a jar of water. So he ate and drank and lay down again. (7) The angel of the LORD came again a second time and touched him and said, "Arise, eat, because the journey is too great for you." (8) So he arose and ate and drank, and went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights to Horeb, the mountain of God. Elijah does not appear that he is being STILL. Panic and deep distress might be the fretful condition he suffers.

SUMMARY/APPLICATION

(9) Then [Elijah] came there to a cave and lodged there; and behold, the word of the LORD came to him, and He said to him, "What are you doing here, Elijah?" (10) He said, "I have been very zealous for the LORD, the God of hosts; for the sons of Israel have forsaken Your covenant, torn down Your altars and killed Your prophets with the sword. And I alone am left; and they seek my life, to take it away." (11) So [God] said, "Go forth and stand on the mountain before the LORD." And behold, the LORD was passing by! And a great and strong wind was rending the mountains and breaking in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice: ["What are you doing here, Elijah?"] {1Ki 19:12 KJV}

Elijah learned to BE STILL AND KNOW...that Jesus is Lord! BE STILL AND LISTEN...discipline yourself to be in the RECEIVE MODE not in the SEND MODE. That old adage "Silence is Golden" is true!

When I was in the fifth grade, my dad, Loyd Earl Thompson told me, "Gary, in life when you want to be seen for your beliefs then be a man and STAND UP! If you want to be heard for your beliefs then be a man and SPEAK UP! And if you want to be respected for your beliefs and learn at the same time, be a man, sit down and SHUT UP!".

BE STILL AND KNOW, BE STILL AND LEARN, THEN BE STILL AND FOLLOW JESUS.

CLOSING PRAYER

O' Mighty and awesome Creator, we are filled to the brim with that which You have taught us this Holy day. Guide us in the application of BEING STILL in our walk with You. May the Holy Spirit, by Your will, quietly nudge us in rightful thought, recalling the lesson taught that is sometimes hard to accomplish. To BE STILL and KNOW-WITHOUT DOUBT-THAT YOU, Jesus, ARE THE LORD, AMEN.

THE CALL

If you have never invited Jesus to be your Lord and savior, or, if you have in the past yet remain unsure of salvation and forgiveness of sin, Please pray with me now: Lord Jesus I need to fill a hole in my life that follows me where ever I go. Gal 5:25 NKJV

The words of our Lord Jesus providing encouragement to all of us to grow into fully spiritual beings, leaving the carnal behind. Today we examine ourselves in Your presence Lord. Grant us open ears, eyes, hearts and souls to see ourselves through Your lens of spirituality. Show us the way, let us grow out of carnality and leave it far behind we pray in the name of Jesus the Christ, AMEN.

MESSAGE

Our topic, on this Holy day is the question of carnality vs. spirituality. Both behaviors that represent the GOOD Vs. EVIL war inside us. We are engaged in a battle, a struggle to the death from the moment of our birth to our last earthly breath. In this battle, only one can win. In the most simple of terms, to be carnal is to be against or counter to God. Conversely, being spiritual is to practice behavior leading to that which pleases or glorifies God.

In the Old testament there was an Aramaic/Hebrew 3-word phrase (that I am not going to try to pronounce) that described what was then called Carnal or carnal activity. The words translated to "lying of seed", or as we read in Lev 18:20 KJV, Moreover thou shalt not lie carnally with thy neighbour's wife, to defile thyself with her. Most all of Leviticus Chapter 18 deals with that activity we can call the "NASTY STUFF". Because, NASTY it is!!

The NEW Testament still documents carnality, and creative human beings have painted the NASTY STUFF with several coats of paint so as to disguise all the vulgarities making it easier for Satan to sell it to you, and you eagerly buy it up!!

By enlarge, we seem pretty good in identifying that which is NASTY. Some of it will certainly make us feel real good for a few minutes; long enough for the devil to convince us to stay on that Train-to-Hell. HINT: Get off now! Stay off!

Beginning in Genesis and all the way through Revelation SIN is SIN and SIN is carnal. To be carnal is to be SINFUL. We were born sinners, and we will be sinners until that moment when we draw our last breath and exchange this fleshly tent for our Spiritual body. Jesus paid the ultimate price for us. He took our place. He died so that we might become spiritual and forever give up the fleshly carnality we know as SIN. He overcame. So can we, but only through Jesus.

SUMMARY/APPLICATION

Our opening scripture: If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. (Gal 5:25 NKJV) This verse points the direction for us, but to find out how we can relate this to our daily walk, lets see what Holy Scripture reveals:

1. You must allow the "Little Child" in you to come out. Believe, as a child believes that all things are possible in God, and NOTHING is IMPOSSIBLE. Mar 10:15 NKJV Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it." Therefore, believe as a child and pray. Pray knowing that all things are possible through God, through PRAYER!

2. Having a good and firm understanding of what the Lord sees as carnal, and those areas where he encourages us to excel, helps us while wearing the flesh to avoid SIN and embrace His will. It truly is an on-going war within us.

Such a comprehensive nasty list we find in: Gal 5:19-23 NKJV ; Now the works of the flesh [the carnal] are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, (20) idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, (21) envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I [Paul] tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, (23) gentleness, self-control. This is the fruit to harvest and always have present in your basket. These are the fruits of the Spirit. Discipline yourself to practice these and stay clear of the carnal fruits of the flesh! Strive to be Holy because HE is Holy!

The question at the beginning today was: ARE YOU CARNAL OR SPIRITUAL? Your answer should be YES to both! You were born carnal and of flesh. When you said YES to Jesus and invited Him to come into you, The Holy Spirit began teaching you Spiritual things from within. You were blind to the Gospel, now you see. You were deaf to the WORD of God, now you hear. You were born LOST, but now you are found.

As we approach the day when the Lord will call us home, which one of these, CARNAL or SPIRITUAL will have the larger bank balance? The answer is simple; the one you feed!

CLOSING PRAYER

Mighty and Loving Lord, thank-You for this teaching and message as we struggle to distance ourselves from the fleshly carnal nature that we were born into and by Your grace apprehend the Holy, the Spiritual. Grant us extreme patience, stamina, wisdom, determination, and discernment in our pursuit. Teach us, reach us, show us and grow us as we embrace an eternity in Your service in the Kingdom, O' Mighty King JESUS, Amen

If you have never invited Jesus to be your Lord and savior, or, if you have in the past yet remain unsure of salvation and forgiveness of sin, Please pray with me now: Lord Jesus I need to fill a hole in my life that follows me where ever I go. I am a long-time Sinner and I CONFESS and REPENT of my sins. I believe that You JESUS are the Lord, that you were hung on a cross and died. I believe that you were raised back to life by God, Your Father, ascended into heaven and presently sit at the right hand of The Almighty. Please come into be, clean me, take me and make me Yours and let me serve from this day forward and forever, Thank-You Jesus, AMEN
