Sunday Message:

"I HAVE LOVED YOU"

Jer 31:3 NKJV

The LORD has appeared of old to me, saying: "Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore with loving kindness I have drawn you."

OPENING PRAYER

Our Father who art in Heaven, Hallowed be Thy name. Lord Jesus, we come before You on this Holy day to worship, to learn, and to apply Your message to our daily walk in Your Light. Thank-You for gathering us and we pray for open ears, eyes, hearts, and souls as we savor the nourishment and love contained in Your Holy Word, in the name of Jesus, AMEN.

MESSAGE

What a profound statement God makes to the prophet Jeremiah: "The LORD has appeared of old to me, saying: "Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore with loving kindness I have drawn you." All of us have been so blessed to have been "drawn" by the Lord to Himself. Invited to be a full member of His family, a partaker in the Kingdom's business, to be filled with His pure sweet and everlasting LOVE!

I read in 2Th 2:13-14 NKJV {Paul is speaking} But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God from the beginning chose you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth, (14) to which He called you by our gospel, for the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

2Ti 1:8-9 NKJV Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His prisoner, but share with me in the sufferings for the gospel according to the power of God, (9) who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began. Before you were ever conceived, GOD knew you! He knew everything about you, and looking ahead, He knew the decisions you would make, and that you would respond when receiving His call. And here you are!

Psa 139:15-16 NKJV [Your] frame was not hidden from [Him], When [you were] made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. (16) [HIS] eyes saw [your] substance, being yet unformed. And in His book they all were written, The days fashioned for [you], When as yet there were none of them.

Joh 3:16-21 NKJV For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

It is here in this verse, one of the most uttered biblical verses ever, and in most every instance when it is recited, here is where it stops! There are five more verses context and purpose. In the verses that follow,...as Paul Harvey might say, "Is The Rest of the Story"!

(17) For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. (18) "He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. (19) And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. (20) For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. (21) But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God."

SUMMARY/APPLICATION

We know that we belong to Him and walk with Him in His LIGHT when we are so full of LOVE that we have no choice but to share it with everyone we contact.

1Jn 4:7-11 NKJV Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. (8) He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. (9) In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. (10) In this is...love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. (11) Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

CLOSING PRAYER

Almighty God, Father of Jesus, giver of the Holy Spirit, the living definition of LOVE, we are humbled before You. We thirst constantly for refreshment in Your Holiness. We long to know fully Your character. The Bible is where we find our solace, and our answers as we learn Your Word directly! O' Lord, let it be Your will to remove the "I" from "ME", and replace it fully with "THEE", in the precious name of Jesus the Christ we pray, AMEN.

If you have never invited Jesus to be your Lord and savior, or, if you have in the past yet remain unsure of salvation and forgiveness of sin, Please pray with me now: Lord Jesus I need to fill a hole in my life that follows me where ever I go. I am a long-time Sinner and I CONFESS and REPENT of my sins. I believe that You JESUS are the Lord, that you were hung on a cross and died. I believe that you were raised back to life by God, Your Father, ascended into heaven and presently sit at the right hand of The Almighty. Please come into me, clean me, take me and make me Yours and let me serve from this day forward and forever, Thank-You Jesus, AMEN

If you sincerely prayed with me, your salvation has been assured. Waste no time in finding like minded folks, to fellowship with, who also know the lord. Be introduced to a church that preaches from the BIBLE. Email me. Begin the journey that you will never tire of; the discovery of the Majesty, Beauty and loving Power of Jesus the Christ. Welcome to the family!

Sunday Message: "Is Procrastination a SIN?" Matthew 25:1-13

OPENING PRAYER

On this Holy First Day of the Week, we pray Lord-- Grant us open minds, hearts and souls to the message to be revealed in in our Bible while granting us wisdom and discernment to better understand Your will. We pray this in the name of Jesus the Christ, AMEN.

MESSAGE

IS PROCRASTINATION A SIN??

I can hear my mother calling, "GARY! You need to get out there and clean up the back yard like your dad said." To which I reply, "In a minute mom. I'll get to it in a minute." "GARY DEAN, ( she is getting serious, she uses my middle name) daylight is going to run out and your dad will be home in a few hours." Again, I PROCRASTINATE, "Aww mom, I can get that yard squared away in about an hour, I'll get out there soon." "GARY DEAN THOMPSON, YOU GET YOURSELF OUT THERE RIGHT THIS MINUTE OR I'LL TELL YOUR DAD YOUVE IGNORED ME ALL DAY LONG!" My dad is now about 30 minutes from home, and I feel the BURN of the BELT already! I sincerely regretted my Procrastination. Until, of course, the NEXT TIME!

Why do we Procrastinate? Things we could complete very quickly keep getting put off. Till when? Later? When is later? Often, later is too late and we find ourselves in a boat-load of trouble, or at a great loss! Is it worth it?

Some tie blame to the "DO IT LATER" behavior of PROCRASTINATION to LAZINESS: Lets see what Holy Scripture says:

Pro 12:24 NKJV The hand of the diligent will rule, But the lazy man will be put to forced labor.

Pro 13:4 NKJV The soul of a lazy man desires, and has nothing; But the soul of the diligent shall be made rich.

Pro 15:19 NKJV The way of the lazy man is like a hedge of thorns, But the way of the upright is a highway.

Pro 18:9 NKJV He who is slothful in his work Is a brother to him who is a great destroyer.

I don't think we can place all the blame of Procrastination on laziness. For instance, a man with a learning disability might well be slow to decipher his role or function. Another might call this man "Slothful" or LAZY. That would be sad and wrong.

Col 3:23-24 NKJV And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, (24) knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ. This verse points to personal responsibility; that "self discipline that not only is expected but demanded by God. Doing what we are supposed to do and doing it in a timely manner is the very definition of right behavior! That's our job!

Mat 5:23-24 NKJV Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, (24) leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. But make sure that you come back for the offering "IN A TIMELY MANNER" not next week!

I suspect that the old and familiar universal excuse might apply here. ME-MYSELF-AND-I attitude as we read Luk 14:16-18 NKJV "A certain man gave a great supper and invited many, (17) and sent his servant at supper time to say to those who were invited, 'Come, for all things are now ready.' (18) But they all with one accord began to make excuses. The first said to him, 'I have bought a piece of ground, and I must go and see it. I ask you to have me excused.' Then the master said to the servant, 'Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled. (24) For I say to you that none of those men who were invited shall taste my supper.' " {Luk 14:23-24 NKJV } One might say that those invited were Professional Procrastinators, or...perhaps, just selfish!

God tells us that TODAY is the DAY. Tomorrow is promised to no one. Yesterday is already in the history books. There remains ONLY TODAY : WHY SHOULD YOU DELAY?

Heb 3:12-15 NASB Take care, brethren, that there not be in anyone of you an evil, unbelieving heart that falls away from the living God. (13) But encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called "Today," so that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. (14) For we have become partakers of Christ, if we hold fast the beginning of our assurance firm until the end, (15) while it is said, "TODAY IF YOU HEAR HIS VOICE, DO NOT HARDEN YOUR HEARTS, AS WHEN THEY PROVOKED ME."

SUMMARY/APPLICATION

Is Procrastination a SIN? Join me in reading Matthew 25, then I will ask again:

Mat 25:1-13 NKJV "Then the kingdom of heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. (2) Now five of them were wise, and five were foolish. (3) Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them, (4) but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. (5) But while the bridegroom was delayed, they all slumbered and slept. (6) "And at midnight a cry was heard: 'Behold, the bridegroom is coming; go out to meet him!' (7) Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. (8) And the foolish said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.' (9) But the wise answered, saying, 'No, lest there should not be enough for us and you; but go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.' (10) And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding; and the door was shut. (11) "Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, 'Lord, Lord, open to us!' (12) But he answered and said, 'Assuredly, I say to you, I do not know you.'

If you delay in doing the Lord's will, for whatever reason, you may loose a valued blessing or even a deserved reward.

As a child, my procrastination resulted in strong punishment. My reason was not laziness but simply attitude. I wanted to do what I wanted to do, PERIOD! Stubborn rebellion. My advice is this; If you PROCRASTINATE, it's not healthy. STOP! When Mom tells me the garage needs to be cleaned up, my response should be; "I'M IN THE GARAGE RIGHT NOW MOM. I'VE ALREADY STARTED.."

"IS PROCRASTINATION A SIN?

James sums it up FOR US in a nice concise verse:

Jas 4:17 NKJV Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it due to Procrastination, to him it is sin.

CLOSING PRAYER

Mighty God, Holy Father, we Your children should never place any obstacle between our duty to the Lord and ourselves. Procrastination has no place in the kingdom, nor should it have residency in us. We are warned that such behavior can result in losing celestial rewards causing shame to before the Lord. Grant us the wisdom to do what we say we will do and do it without delay. May our behavior bring glory to our Lord and never shame. This we pray in the name of Jesus the Christ, Amen.

If you have never invited Jesus to be your Lord and savior, or, if you have in the past yet remain unsure of salvation and forgiveness of sin, Please pray with me now: Lord Jesus I need to fill a hole in my life that follows me where ever I go. MESSAGE

"BEWILDERED, BEWILDERING, to BEWILDER" When I hear these words my mind goes back to black & white TV Westerns, or those we enjoyed at Saturday matinees. It seems that there was always an older senior cowboy who would become "Bewildered" or, "BEFUDDLED" at some point in the picture. One character named Gabby Hayes often played the role of the camp cook in charge of the Mess Wagon as a herd of cattle was moved across vast range lands.

Poor old Gabby. His heart was golden but his planning and execution was not always well thought out. Gabby was a dreamer who ended up confused or BEWILDERED, by his own devices. Gabby would pray, and the Lord would open a door for his solution.

Young Christians, old Christians, new and very well seasoned have, had, and will continue to experience BEWILDERMENT from time to time as your walk with the Lord moves forward.

Did you know that some of the most frequently offered prayers of a growing Christian is "Lord...what is Your will for me?" "What is it that You want me to do?" "Do I Go or do I Stay?"

This prayer is one that I have pleaded in earnest on many, many occasions: O' Lord, be with me please. I have no idea of what I am doing or where I am going. I wholly rest on You as I step forward -- as you lead me, Your Will be done, Amen. Prayer works!

Luk 18:27-34 NKJV [Jesus said], "The things which are impossible with men are possible with God." (28) Then Peter said, "See, we have left all and followed You." (29) So [Jesus] said to them, "Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or parents or brothers or wife or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God, (30) who shall not receive many times more in this present time, and in the age to come eternal life."

(31) Then He took the twelve aside and said to them, "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of Man will be accomplished. (32) For He will be delivered to the Gentiles and will be mocked and insulted and spit upon. (33) They will scourge Him and kill Him. And the third day He will rise again."

(34) But they understood none of these things; this saying was hidden from them, and they did not know the things which were spoken. [The twelve were BEWILDERED, BEFUDDLED.]

Our Lord uses bewilderment as a tool of the Shepherd; herding us and directing the path to where He wants us to be. In 1st Corinthians we read: For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not come to know God, God was well-pleased through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe. (22) For indeed Jews ask for signs and Greeks search for wisdom; (23) but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block and to Gentiles foolishness, (24) but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ [is] the power of God and the wisdom of God. {1Co 1:21-24 NASB}

Born in Aberdeen, Scotland July 24th, 1874, Oswald Chambers lived and studied music and the Bible. His passion was teaching the "Good Book".

Chambers traveled to the U.S. in 1906 and again in 1907 teaching at God's Bible School in Cincinnati, Ohio. Returning to London, Oswald launched The Bible Training College (B T C) and spent the balance of his life traveling and teaching. AT the start of WWI, Oswald became a military Chaplain, serving God to the troops of battle. In 1917, Chambers died from a burst Appendix.

Years after his death, Biddy, his beloved bride collected, organized, and compiled the vast majority of Oswald's daily lessons and teachings. That work is titled "MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST". It remains to this day, one of the most often used daily devotions ever printed. In the setting of BEWILDERMENT, here is what Oswald wrote:

God called Jesus Christ to what seemed absolute disaster. And Jesus Christ called His disciples to see Him put to death, leading every one of them to the place where their hearts were broken. His life was an absolute failure from every standpoint except God's. But what seemed to be failure from man's standpoint was a triumph from God's standpoint, because God's purpose is never the same as man's purpose. THIS IS THE BEWILDERING CALL OF GOD!

 OSWALD CONTINUES:

This bewildering call of God comes into our lives as well. The call of God can never be understood absolutely or explained externally; it is a call that can only be perceived and understood internally by our true inner-nature. The call of God is like the call of the sea- no one hears it except the person who has the "nature of the sea" in him. What God calls us to cannot be definitely stated, because His call is simply to be His friend to accomplish His own purposes. Our real test is in truly believing that God knows what He desires. The things that happen do not happen by chance- they happen entirely by the decree of God. God is sovereignly working out His own purposes.

{Oswald then adds:}

If we are in fellowship and oneness with God and recognize that He is taking us into His purposes, then we will no longer strive to find out what His purposes are. As we grow in the Christian life, it becomes simpler to us, because we are less inclined to say, "I wonder why God allowed this or that?" And we begin to see that the compelling purpose of God lies behind everything in life, and that God is divinely shaping us into oneness with that purpose.

{Oswald closes with this:} A Christian is someone who trusts and holds tightly to faith in the knowledge and the wisdom of God, not in his own abilities. If we introduce a purpose of our own, it destroys the simplicity and the calm, relaxed pace which should be characteristic of the children of God.//

SUMMARY/APPLICATION

When Jesus gave up His spirit at His last breath on that old cross, an earthquake of great violence ensued. Graves were suddenly opened, the veil separating the Holy of Holies was torn from top to bottom as the CALL OF GOD was sent throughout the entire world. EVERYONE ON THIS PLANET HEARD HIS CALL. EVERYONE!    To this day, that call to SALVATION continues to be delivered. Offering YOU the opportunity to make a decision. Mankind can never say that he or she has never been offered the opportunity to chose HEAVEN over HELL. It is your God given decision to say YES or NO.  My prayer is that you say YES to Jesus and His gift of life eternal. Say YES and call HIS name, watch your BEWILDERMENT disappear!

CLOSING PRAYER

Father, there is a great deal in today's message on which to ponder and meditate. Where we often fall short is digesting the receipt of Holy Direction and then apply it to our daily walk. I am learning that simply assuring that everything that we do or say or think must be disciplined in such a fashion that the single goal that matters is that it all brings glory to You O' Lord. Thank-You for this teaching! In Jesus we pray, AMEN

DOXOLOGY

Sunday Message: JUDE'S WARNING TO THE CHURCH

Jude 1-25

OPENING PRAYER

Father of all creation, with great humility we thank-You for gathering us together to worship and grow on this Holy Weekend. Grant us open minds, hearts and souls to absorb the message revealed through Holy Scripture. grant us also wisdom, discernment, and courage to fully understand and implement Your will. We pray this in the name above all names, Jesus the Christ, AMEN.

MESSAGE

Jude was one of five boys born to Mary. Jesus was his older brother. Although a half brother, Jesus was the first born. The Bible is not clear if Jude was a middle kid or where he was birth-wise. Being a younger brother the oldest commands a special respect from his siblings. Even the girls. After spending years and years as a family, seeing and working with one another to one day find out that the senior brother is claimed to be THE MESSIAH! THE CHRIST! Common sense would indicate that there would have to be one or more family members who would have a serious time believing the claim. Jude was one who had problems in this regard. Finally he came around, and this is his published warning for the church of the First Born:

Jud 1:1-25 NKJV Jude, a bond-servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, To those who are called, sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ: (2) Mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you.

In this his opening introduction, there is no hint of the familial relationship of he and JESUS --

Scriptural evidence supports the notion that this Jude as was James were half-brothers to our Lord. {Mar 6:2-4 KJV}: And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands? (3) Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him. (4) But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house.

More than one family member beside JUDE among Mary's Children found it difficult to believe that their half-brother Jesus was the Messiah. James was a late believer as well. Just as in Jude's greeting, he only identifies himself as a lowly bond-servant of the Christ! With great humility being subordinate to the familial connection.

Jude was convinced, through his direct witness of observed events and of a people who seemed to have ulterior motives --certainly not supportive in the least towards the Gospel and the New Church. Thus, his warning.

Jude Writes:

(3) Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints.

(4) For certain men have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ.

(5) But I want to remind you, though you once knew this, that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe.

(6) And the angels—who did not keep their own position of authority but deserted their proper place—He has kept in everlasting shackles under gloomy darkness until the judgment of the great Day. (7) In the same way as these angels, Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities around them—having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after a different sort of flesh—are displayed as an example, suffering the punishment of eternal fire. {Jud 1:6-7 TLV}

(8) Likewise also these dreamers defile the flesh, reject authority, and speak evil of dignitaries. [The DREAMERS are those who claim to interpret dreams for the purpose to attack the Gospel, lead others away from Jesus, not toward Him. Likewise, they blaspheme the Heavenly Host, the angels and other Heavenly creatures.]

(9) Yet Michael the archangel, in contending with the devil, when he disputed about the body of Moses, dared not bring against him a reviling accusation, but said, "The Lord rebuke you!" [Good angel vs. bad angel is expressed here; When Moses died on the mountain top, GOD himself buried the body of Moses in an undisclosed location, in a valley in the land of Moab. Scripture leads us that this might have been to prevent Moses becoming an Idol and therefore worshiped. Details in: Deu 34:1-12 ]

JUDE CONTINUES:

(10) But these {Dreamers} speak evil of whatever they do not know; and whatever they know naturally, like brute beasts, in these things they corrupt themselves.

(11) Woe to them! For they have gone in the way of Cain, have run greedily in the error of Balaam for profit, and perished in the rebellion of Korah.

(12) These are spots in your love feasts, while they feast with you without fear, serving only themselves. They are clouds without water, carried about by the winds; late autumn trees without fruit, twice dead, pulled up by the roots;

(13) raging waves of the sea, foaming up their own shame; wandering stars for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever.

(14) Now Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men also, saying, "Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of His saints,

(15) to execute judgment on all, to convict all who are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have committed in an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him."

(16) These are grumblers, complainers, walking according to their own lusts; and they mouth great swelling words, flattering people to gain advantage. (17) But you, beloved, remember the words which were spoken before by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ:

(18) how they told you that there would be mockers in the last time who would walk according to their own ungodly lusts.

(19) These are sensual persons, who cause divisions, not having the Spirit.

SUMMARY/APPLICATION

(20) But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit,

(21) keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.

(22) And on some have compassion, making a distinction;

(23) but others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire, hating even the garment defiled by the flesh.

For some in the earthly family of the Lord, true realization of the Deity of the Christ did not jell until after the Resurrection, and perhaps up to the day of Pentecost, perhaps beyond. All of this is part of the great and wondrous mystery that surrounds the thirty-three years of GOD in the FLESH. Perhaps in the Kingdom, all these mysteries will be fully revealed. What an exciting ETERNITY that will be. The more you know, the more you know that you don't know, and the cycle repeats---FOREVER!

CLOSING PRAYER

Thank-you Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit for bringing to life the truth of the Words of Holy scripture. Thank-You for revealing some of the tender moments and natural family interactions in a most extraordinary miracle--that of the incarnation of the very source of life into the tent of flesh and bring about the salvation promise for the world's created humans. Praise You Jesus, AMEN.

OPENING PRAYER

Our FATHER, who art in heaven, hallowed by thy name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, in Earth as it is in heaven. Thank-You Lord for gathering us together on this Holy day in fellowship to worship and grow in our walk with You. Grant us, O' Lord Jesus, with open ears, hearts and souls to receive Your Word through Holy Scripture. May we apply that which we learn today to our daily life, thereby enriching the Glory to You in Your name, AMEN.

MESSAGE

The Transfiguration of Jesus is an extraordinary event. Information in the three of the four Gospels is brief and scant but there are valuable clues hiding in plain sight that will guide us to discoveries along scriptural driven paths answering the WHO, WHAT, WHEN WHERE, AND WHY of this unique teaching of the Lord. We begin at the beginning:

Exo 34:29-30 KJV And it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount Sinai {circa: 1447 bc} with the two NEW tables of testimony in Moses' hand, when he came down from the mount, that Moses wist not that the skin of his face shone while he talked with [God]. (30) And when Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, behold, the skin of his face shone; and they were afraid to come nigh him. There are some translations that differ regarding the resulting affect of being in the very presence of GOD. Moses skin reflected obvious change using word or words like, SHINED, SHONED, GLISTENED, RADIATED, was LIT-UP!

Certainly the change was more than enough to get the attention of the entire population who witnessed it first hand. They were very afraid! This direct intercourse with Almighty GOD also gave us a sense of the warning to humans against seeing GOD in His full Glory. The sheer energy and power of our Creator is beyond all reckoning. How does the saying go? -- You cannot see GOD in His Glory and LIVE!

We recall earlier that Moses had a powerful experience in the presence of the awesome POWER of GOD; Exo 3:3-6 NKJV Then Moses said, "I will now turn aside and see this great sight, why the bush does not burn." (4) So when the LORD saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, "Moses, Moses!" And he said, "Here I am." (5) Then He said, "Do not draw near this place. Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground." (6) Moreover He said, "I am the God of your father—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob." And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look upon God. Similar words were spoken by THE Angel of the Lord to Joshua in verses Jos 5:15 KJV As the captain of the LORD'S host said unto Joshua, Loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so.

Transfigure Definition: To be TRANSFORMED: (changed, modified, mutated, different)

Let's read the first few verses of Matthew 17 and Mark 9's rendering of the initial events that day:

Mat 17:1-3 NASB Six days later Jesus *took with Him Peter and James and John his brother, and *led them up on a high mountain by themselves. (2) And He was transfigured before them; and His face shone like the sun, and His garments became as white as light. (3) And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him.

Mar 9:2-4 NASB Six days later, Jesus *took with Him Peter and James and John, and *brought them up on a high mountain by themselves. And He was transfigured before them; (3) and His garments became radiant and exceedingly white, as no launderer on earth can whiten them. (4) Elijah appeared to them along with Moses; and they were talking with Jesus.

In the Gospel according to LUKE, it seems to my reading that there is a bit more detailed information to ponder in Luke's documentation. We will use his complete recording of the events and then adjust the synoptic as needed:

While Matthew and Mark opens with SIX DAYS, Luke uses EIGHT. (The Bible is silent as to why) Luk 9:28-36 NASB : Some eight days after these sayings, [Jesus] took along Peter and John and James, and went up on the mountain to pray. (29) And while [Jesus] was praying, the appearance of His face became different, and His clothing became white and gleaming. (30) And behold, two men were talking with Him; and they were Moses {died in 1407bc} and Elijah,{who , in 852 bc, had been taken up into heaven alive (31) both, appearing in glory, were speaking of [Jesus] departure which He was about to accomplish at Jerusalem.

 (32) Now Peter and his companions had been overcome with sleep; but when they were fully awake, they saw His glory and the two men standing with Him. (33) And as these were leaving Him, Peter said to Jesus, "Master, it is good for us to be here; let us make three tabernacles: one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah"—not realizing what he was saying. (34) While he was saying this, a cloud formed and began to overshadow them; and they were afraid as they entered the cloud. (35) Then a voice came out of the cloud, saying, "This is My Son, My Chosen One; listen to Him!" (36) And when the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. And they kept silent, and reported to no one in those days any of the things which they had seen. In the Matthew version, it was Jesus who commanded the trio to speak to no one about the events that had just occurred until after He was raised from the dead.

APPLICATION & SUMMARY

WHO, WHAT, WHEN WHERE, AND WHY & Sometimes HOW

The "WHO" we know; Jesus, Peter, James, John, Elijah & Moses. There was one more. I'll come back to Him. "WHAT" These men were invited by Jesus to be with Him "WHERE" at the top of a high mountain. "WHY" To PRAY!

"WHEN" As Jesus prayed, the appearance of His face became different, and His clothing became white and gleaming.

"HOW" By crucifixion followed in three days with Resurrection.

"WHAT" a voice came out of the cloud, saying, "This is My Son, My Chosen One; listen to Him!" the voice of Almighty God was speaking!

"WHO" Peter, James and John are huge clues since they each have been pre-ordained and will have very important tasks after Jesus ascends into heaven, where He prepares for His return as KING. James is to be the Bishop of Jerusalem, and Peter will deliver the awesome grand sermon on the day of Pentecost, concecrating the Church. Later, John will embark on his mission to record every word commanded by Jesus Himself in the REVELATION OF JESUS CHRIST.

If we continued using the 5-W's and the H formula, we would certainly discover other nuggets of value to reveal the Lord's message. I believe that the scripture shows clearly that Jesus desired to set into the minds of Peter, James and John the full reality of His and His Father's Holy and powerful nature, and connect that to the roles soon to be played by these precious servants. When appearing,-- Jesus, Moses and Elijah were bathed in the "Shekinah" light of Glory and during a portion of their conversation regarding the upcoming crucifixion, Peter, James and John either were caught in a deep sleep, or the Lord purposely placed them in this slumber until the appropriate time.

The text would indicate that they were returned to fully awake at some point in order to witness the latter part of the gathering and marvel over their glowing Glory. Being overwhelmed with fear and trembling, Peter offered to build tabernacles which then led to the FATHER himself speaking, COMMANDING, that they "LISTEN to HIS SON!".

In a very short engagement, this powerful and revealing Mountain Top event was about as real as it can get for a human being, and still live to tell about it!.

Our Father God provides instruction and direction through JESUS, our Savior. His great sacrifice on that Old Cross was drawing nigh and He must prepare His Shepherds for the awesome responsibilities ahead. BY THE WAY,... I promised to go back to name the SEVENTH and most important host on this mountain top: It was GOD The FATHER.....His Will Be Done!
