I am my beloved's, And his desire is for me.
Son 7:10
There are places in this world where just the mention that you are a follower of Jesus Christ will result in violence or even death. I ask myself frequently if I felt that I could rise above the fear in such a situation and proclaim my love and affection for Jesus regardless of the potential for injury or death.
I know that great strength comes instantly from Him through whose promise I am led. This brings to mind a missive that I first heard while spending time with a group of new U.S. Army Rangers near Eglin, Florida a year or so ago. In a moment of horrible challenge, Satan whispers to the warrior, "you cannot withstand the storm"; to which the warrior responds to Satan, "In Christ....I AM the storm!". In all matters of the Lord, if your heart and faith is right with Him, He will fill your every step with His power and grace. For this reason I also suffer these things, but I am not ashamed; for I know whom I have believed and I am convinced that He is able to guard what I have entrusted to Him until that day. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.[2Ti 1:12, Rom 8:38-39]
In the most beautiful and powerful prayer in all the Bible, Jesus confessed to His Father in Heaven saying "While I was with them, I was keeping them in Your name which You have given Me; and I guarded them and not one of them perished but the son of perdition, so that the Scripture would be fulfilled." [Joh 17:12]
For the LORD takes pleasure in His people; He will beautify the afflicted ones with salvation.-- Rejoicing in the world, His earth, And having my delight in the sons of men. [Psa 149:4,-- Pro 8:31]
But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, "Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends. [Eph 2:4, Joh 15:13]
Jesus did just that! He died for you. He died for me. He died at the request of His Father, that we might be set free from the curse of Adam's Sin.
For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body. --
for if we live, we live for the Lord, or if we die, we die for the Lord; therefore whether we live or die, we are the Lord's. [1Co 6:20, Rom 14:8]
