THE COMING KING OF ZION

In just days following the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, riding on a donkey, the world would witness His horrible and agonizing death by crucifixion, His burial in a sealed tomb. No sooner had the intense grief established its hold on those who believed, that same belief would be rewarded by the fulfilling of His promised salvation through His blood, death and His resurrection by the very hand of God.

Over 480 years before this day, the Prophet Zechariah recorded the following prophecy:

Zec 9:9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout in triumph, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; He is just and endowed with salvation, Humble, and mounted on a donkey, Even on a colt, the foal of a donkey.

Here is the fulfillment of Zachariah's testimony:

Mat 21:1-7 When they had approached Jerusalem and had come to Bethphage, at the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples, (2) saying to them, "Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied there and a colt with her; untie them and bring them to Me. (3) "If anyone says anything to you, you shall say, 'The Lord has need of them,' and immediately he will send them." (4) This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet: (5) "SAY TO THE DAUGHTER OF ZION, 'BEHOLD YOUR KING IS COMING TO YOU, GENTLE, AND MOUNTED ON A DONKEY, EVEN ON A COLT, THE FOAL OF A BEAST OF BURDEN.'" (6) The disciples went and did just as Jesus had instructed them, (7) and brought the donkey and the colt, and laid their coats on them; and He sat on the coats.

Mark gives his perspective from a different angle;

Mar 11:8-10 And many spread their coats in the road, and others spread leafy branches which they had cut from the fields. (9) Those who went in front and those who followed were shouting: "Hosanna! BLESSED IS HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD; (10) Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David; Hosanna in the highest!"

The precision of this prophetic declaration, and it's fulfillment, defies any statistical analysis of anti-probability and must be so reasoned as supernatural, just as the Bible has declared it. Even the words of the people blessing the coming Kingdom of "OUR FATHER DAVID" bore witness that they knew that this man was indeed THE MESSIAH! The SON of GOD!

Only Jesus knew what lay in store for Him and for the world as the week would now proceed. Today, would not be celebration alone, but would include hurtful disappointment over the profane manner and conduct by money changers and animal dealers in the Temple Courts. Jesus was angry. What horror many would soon see. What gut wrenching pain they would emotionally suffer when Jesus, the Messiah, the Savior would be seen dead and hanging on a tree, then buried in a tomb. What now?

...AND THEN IT WAS THE FIRST DAY OF THE WEEK!!
