Self Exam

How often do you take a good close look at yourself? You know, as an individual, in how you relate or care for others? Too often the lens we examine others through is much more critical and focused than the optics we use to look at ourselves.

The Bible reminds us to be vigilant in our self view being equally as honest with ourselves as we should be with others. Sometimes we stray and fail to remove that huge two-by-four from our own eyes while calling attention to that ocular speck of our brothers or sisters. Lord, help us in this area; Let us examine and probe our ways, And let us return to the LORD, Amen.

Examine me, O LORD, and try me; Test my mind and my heart. – Behold, You desire truth in the innermost being, And in the hidden part You will make me know wisdom. – I considered my ways And turned my feet to Your testimonies. – I hastened and did not delay To keep Your commandments. – But a man must examine himself, and in so doing he is to eat of the bread and drink of the cup.

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. – My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; Therefore, brethren, since we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus, let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
